The founders of KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms had a vision: toproduce the purest, most effective mushroom extracts in the world— no compromises.
Eric Puro, Otso Mursula, and Seppo Riikonen were united by their passion to revolutionise an industry saturated with low-quality functional mushroom products. Their goal was to introduce consumers tomushrooms that deliver real results through cutting-edge science and uncompromising quality.
That vision sparked the creation of a deeply intricatebiotechnology company: KÄÄPÄ Mushrooms. Our mission remains guided by four key principles:

Our facilities are certified by FSSC 22000, a globally recognised food safety standard that ensures our processes meet the highest manufacturing criteria. We conduct rigorous daily in-house testing and back this up with independent third-party verification. When we say premium quality, we mean it.
Sustainability & Purity
Our mushrooms start their journey in Finland's pristine forests — home to the cleanest air and purest water in the world. This unique environment allows us to cultivate mushrooms such as Chaga, straight from the forest and using FSC and PEFC-certified Finnish birch wood substrate — ensuring a sustainable, eco-friendly process.
We control every aspect of the indoor growing conditions — temperature, humidity, oxygen, and CO₂ levels — optimising each mushroom for maximum potency and compound concentration.
But we wanted to go further.
To combat the overharvesting of chaga mushrooms, we created KÄÄPÄ Forest — the world's largest sustainable chaga forest cultivation network. This initiative protects Finland's Nordic forests while cultivating medicinal mushrooms, absorbing hundreds of tons of carbon each year. Our cultivation footprint is equivalent to 700 football pitches, ensuring forest conservation and environmental restoration.
A Commitment to Science
It’s vital to us that when it comes to claims about our products, that we back it up with science. We have an incredible science team, led by our scientific director, Heikki Kiheri. Their efforts are helping to transform the functional mushroom industry, pushing new boundaries of what’s possible and expanding ideas to bring you the very best quality mushroom products.
Our commitment to science has led us to be industry pioneers of the leading extraction technology that we use today. Essentially, we take ground mushroom fruiting bodies (the best part of the mushroom!) and use our unique NordRelease™ extraction process. We have evolved ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) technology, to produce high yields of the mushroom compounds that really matter. No alcohol is used in our extraction process.

Unlike many mushroom products grown on untraceable grain in warehouses overseas, our mushrooms are cultivated in a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility. Every element — from the birch wood substrate to the airflow, humidity, and lighting — is carefully controlled to create the optimal environment for the fruiting bodies to thrive. We don’t outsource quality — we build it in.
Chaga can’t be lab-grown. That’s why we manage one of Europe's largest sustainable Chaga forest networks—across managed Finnish woodland the size of 700 football pitches. Our Chaga is wild-cultivated the right way, preserving nature and ensuring long-term availability.
